Hogenakkal Dam Issue

The noble and sensible act of Mr. Karunanidhi was worth appreciating if it is a genuine gesture. It displayed a mature and deep statesmanship on the part of the DMK's veteran politician. However the events do appear a bit fabricated, a violent outburst of clashes between the Tamils and the Kanadiggas, and then sudden recession of the sporiadic violence do point towrds some sort of a nexus between the politicains and the parochial elements, What substantiates the doubts is the involvement of filmstares in the agitation who in the past have distanced themselvs from such issues for eg: the cauvery water-sharing dispute. Were they involved to just make the whole scenario more dramatic and apparently more realistic? Were the acts of vandalism perpetrated by the UPA govt to put on hold the Hogenakkal issue till the elections ? A lot of such questions are raised which demand for an independent judicial probe into the whole shameful episode.
